Resident Evil: The Final Chapter opened in North Americna theaters on January 27 and went on to gross $26.5 million and an abysmal 1.5 star Rotten Tomatoes rating. But the
Resident Evil movie franchise has always performed considerably better abroad, particularly in Japan and China. As such, the film has earned $36.4 million in Japan after opening on December 13, 2016 and will collect an estimated $33.6 million this weekend in China, the world's second largest film market.
Analysts are predicting
The Final Chapter to have a box office run in China similar to
Furious 7 and
Warcraft, which went on to gross $391 million and $221 million, repsectively. With the film already sitting at $140 million worldwide and with another $200+ million expected to be earned in China, will Sony really let the latest
