Back in October of last year, Capcom officially announced that they were working on a
live-action adaptation based on their popular, and long-running Mega Man series of video games; to the excitement of some fans, and the dismay of others.
The movie would have been distributed by 21st Century Fox and was supposed to be penned by Henry Joost and Ariel Schuman, while also being produced by NBC's
Heroes actor Masi Oka.
After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox this past August, however, it seemed like the live-action
Mega Man movie was one of the many projects that were going to be shelved by Disney. Some new information may reveal otherwise.
According to
Capcom's latest financial results, it seems that the
Mega Man live-action adaptation hasn't been scrapped just yet; not only that, but Capcom may also want to make live-action films based on some of their other popular franchises.
The quote on Capcom's financial results reads as follows:
"
...to generate synergy with its popular games via greater global brand awareness and value, the Company has been producing world-leading content, with brands such as Street Fighter and Resident Evil being made into Hollywood movies, now followed by Monster Hunter and Mega Man, which are also scheduled for live-action film adaptation."
While this doesn't officially confirm that the live-action
Mega Man movie we knew about is still in the works, they still have plans to produce one at some point. What's even more exciting — or disapointing, depending on who you ask — is that they have also considered making other live-action movies.
So far, we know that a live-action
Monster Hunter movie is in the works and being directed by
Resident Evil movie series director Paul W.S. Anderson. If all goes well,
Mega Man could be the next project to be officially greenlit(once again) by Capcom and Disney.
