Mega Man 11 was finally released a few days ago, marking the return of Capcom's Blue Bomber and introducing the iconic character to a new generation of players all over the world. In its own right,
Mega Man 11 is the well-needed a return to form the series has been needing for a long time.
With the momentum
Mega Man 11 is currently gaining thanks to the more than favourable reviews the game has got from media outlets, it was only a matter of time until Capcom finally decided to make the Blue Bomber return in full force, and Capcom Japan hs recently announced that a live-action Mega Man movie is currently in the works.
The upcoming live-action Mega Man movie, tentatively titled MEGA MAN, will be penned and directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman—who have "
Paranormal Activity 3" and "
Paranormal Activity 4", as well as the 2016 techno-thriller movie "
Nerve", starring Dave Franco, under their belts.
The
Mega Man movie will be distributed by 20th Century Fox, and will be produced by Chernin Entertainment and Japanese-American actor Masi Oka—who is known for his role as Hiro Nakamura in NBC's "Heroes". According to the announcement, Capcom wants to cater to a diverse audience without alienating gamers who became fans of the character by playing the games, while still keeping the elements that made Mega Man a household name.
While this may sound like good news on paper, it is difficult to say whether this is a good idea or not; especially given that many fans would much rather Capcom focused on delivering quality games rather than movies that may not click with fans like the "Resident Evil" movies that, kindly put, overstayed their welcome pretty much since the first movie came out back in 2002. Let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope that Capcom and 20th Century Fox deliver a decent video game adaptation.
