With Grand Theft Auto 6 reportedly coming in Fall of next year, Rockstar Games is readying to release a new expansion for GTA Online to help hold us over until then. The next expansion for GTA Online — the online multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto 5 — is titled "Agents of Sabotage" and is set to arrive next week on December 10th.
"Agents of Sabotage" will feature a new story that introduces a former Federal Investigation Bureau operative turned rogue agent, fed up with her former handlers and looking to exact revenge through high-stakes robberies.
"Former FIB operative turned rogue agent Jodi Marshall has a serious grudge against her former handlers. She’s maintained backdoor access to the Bureau’s files, and is not above exploiting this privileged information for personal gain," the description teases. Players will take ownership of the Darnell Bros Garment Factory and use it as a covert ops installation.
"Partner with Jodi, in addition to a familiar face, your first mate Pavel from The Cayo Perico Heist. Together, you’ll utilize the latest clandestine tech to zero in on some of the city’s preeminent scores in this thrilling new GTA Online update."
Launched in 2013, GTA Online has been an incredibly successful venture for Rockstar. The online multiplayer mode features an open-world design that lets players freely roam San Andreas.
Players create and control their own customizable character and work to become a powerful criminal, completing side missions, lucrative heists, and seasonal events. Players can also purchase and manage various small businesses to produce income, and own properties and a collection of cars.
GTA Online's popularity has been a double-edged sword for Grand Theft Auto 5 though. Because of its ability to generate obscene amounts of money for Rockstar Games, the developer opted not to continue working on a single-player story expansion for the main GTA 5 campaign, much to the dismay of players.
At this point, all eyes are now on Grand Theft Auto 6 which is in full development and supposedly on track to release late next year. Rockstar hasn't said much about the next game or what it will mean for GTA Online, but the expectation is that the online game mode will continue to be supported as well. If anything, it may even receive a massive update to go along with the new game.
Rockstar shared the first teaser trailer back in December 2023. There hasn't been much since then, but it's possible that we could be getting another one soon.
