Recently, a suspicious message has been popping up in GTA Online. The message seems to indicate that the next Grand Theft Auto game will be arriving next year! Though don't get your hopes up just yet as Rockstar Games recently took to social media to confirm that the alert is in-fact illegitimate.
As you can see in the image above, the alert seemed to appear as if it were a game invite or mission - certainly peculiar, especially as a way to announce a sequel.
What took away credence from the hoax, to begin with, is that the message was exclusive to the PC iteration of the game - which lead many to think it was just some trollish hacker who wanted to cause a stir within the community.
A Twitter user asked Rockstar "What's up with that GTA VI message? It's constantly showing up for me, even in story mode" and here's what the official Rockstar Support account had to say:
So that's a no. As cool it would be to have a sequel to arguably one of the biggest entertainment products of all time as soon as next year, it just isn't reasonable or plausible - though we're sure that given more time Rockstar will cook up something truly special. For now their hands are full developing the highly anticipated sequel to Red Dead Redemption.
What do you think about the hoax? Did you fall for it?
