Marvel's Avengers is an upcoming video game from Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal. Square Enix serves as publisher. While the title was originaly for May, the release of Marvel's Avengers was delayed to September 15th back in January — more on that here.
Based on the iconic Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, players will be able to assume the roles and make use of the abilities of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, and The Hulk. Not to mention, other characters such as Ms. Marvel and Ant-Man.
The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) recently published their official judgement for what Marvel's Avengers should be rated. The upcoming superhero game apparently warrants as "T" (for teen) rating due to the inclusion moderate violence and minor instances vulgar language. "The word “sh*t” is heard in the game."
What's more, the game includes microtransactions — something that the ESRB has finally begun to clamp down on. Of course, this isn't a surprise to anyone who has been following Marvel's Avengers. It would seem that some heroes and skins will be added after launch and be behind a paywall.
You can read the ESRB's full rundown of the game's contents below (via ESRB):
This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the roles of the Avengers battling an evil corporation. From a third-person perspective, players engage in a variety of combat missions using each character's weapons/abilities; characters use melee combat (e.g., punches, kicks, throws, smashes), pistols and machine guns, lasers, thrown projectiles (e.g., hammer, shield, rock) to defeat enemies. Combat can be frenetic, with frequent explosions, cries of pain, and gunfire. The word “sh*t” is heard in the game.
Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Marvel's Avengers will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia from September 4th, 2020.
