Marvel fans will have to wait a bit longer to reassemble Earth's Mightiest as
Marvel's Avengers has been delayed. One of this year's most anticipated blockbuster action-adventure RPGs, Marvel's Avengers was supposed to release on May 15. Now it will arrive on September 4.
The four month delay will allow developer Crystal Dynamics to fine tune and polish the game. A full statement regarding the delay was posted to Crystal Dynamics' website. Studio co-heads Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg apologized for the setback and offered the following:
"To our fans,
At Crystal Dynamics our ambition has always been to deliver the ultimate Avengers gaming experience. In order to achieve that goal, we have made the difficult decision to move the release date of Marvel's Avengers to September 4, 2020.
As fans ourselves, it's an honour and a privilege to work with these legendary characters and we know what these Super Heroes mean to us and True Believers around the world. When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel's Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come. To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.
The worldwide teams working on Marvel's Avengers sincerely appreciate the support you've shown us. We thrive on your enthusiasm and feedback and we can't wait to show you more. We apologise for the delay. We're confident it will be worth the wait."
Honestly, the delay doesn't come as too much of a surprise. Of all the big games coming out this year,
Marvel's Avengers has had the roughest response from fans. The game's big reveal at E3 2019 was met with mixed reception, from the character designs to the overall confusion as to how the game will blend its single-player and online multiplayer elements. While additional videos and trailers have attempted to clear up the story and gameplay mechanics, it was clear that
Marvel's Avengers wasn't living up to the typical standard set for by the Marvel brand. Hopefully, these four extra months result in a game that Marvel fans can enjoy.
Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Marvel's Avengers will still release on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Google Stadia, but will now be coming on September 4, 2020.
