Insomniac Games has announced that Marvel’s Wolverine has gone gold. The studio shared the news on August 21 with a short video of Logan extending golden claws, confirming that the final release candidate build is complete and ready for manufacturing and distribution.
The game is scheduled to launch on September 15, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5. Going gold more than three weeks ahead of that date leaves a comfortable window for disc production, certification, and the usual day-one patch process. Insomniac has indicated the full 1.0 version will be on the physical disc, with a recommended digital patch available at launch for the best performance.
Marvel’s Wolverine marks a clear shift from Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles. Where those games emphasized open-world traversal and acrobatic combat, this project is described as more linear, with a darker tone and significantly more brutal, close-quarters fighting. The story follows Logan as he rejoins the mutant task force known as Team X. Bolivar Trask is kidnapping mutants, and Wolverine is drawn into the effort to stop him. The campaign takes players across multiple locations, including Canada, Japan, and the island nation of Madripoor. Supporting characters include Jean Grey, Sabretooth, and others connected to Logan’s past.
The gold claws shown in the announcement video are not just a celebratory visual. Insomniac confirmed players will be able to unlock and equip them in the game, adding to the collection of claw and suit options available for customization. Previous marketing has already shown a range of outfits, from classic comic looks to more modern and alternate designs.
The announcement arrives after a long development cycle that included the well-publicized 2023 ransomware incident that exposed early assets and builds. Reaching the gold stage on schedule suggests the team has navigated those disruptions and completed the core work in time for the planned window. Recent hands-on previews have described the combat as satisfying and cinematic, with a strong emphasis on visceral melee encounters that fit the character.
For PlayStation’s 2026 lineup, Marvel’s Wolverine stands as one of the major single-player exclusives still to arrive. Its more focused structure and heavier tone set it apart from both the studio’s previous Marvel work and many other contemporary superhero games. With the gold status confirmed, the remaining steps are primarily logistical rather than developmental.
Pre-orders for both standard and digital deluxe editions are already live. The deluxe version includes additional suits and other bonuses. As the final weeks count down, attention will turn to any remaining trailers, a potential state of play or showcase appearance, and the day-one patch notes that typically accompany Insomniac releases.
Marvel’s Wolverine is now locked in for September 15 on PlayStation 5. The gold announcement removes the last major uncertainty around its readiness and gives the studio time to prepare for launch without the pressure of last-minute delays.
