Another day, another adaptation of a Ubisoft video game has been announced. As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter today, the French company is currently working on a TV series based on
Skull & Bones. Considering that the pirate sandbox title hasn't even hit stores yet, it's a pretty bold move.
To adapt the IP, Ubisoft has teamed with Atlas Entertainment (
12 Monkeys, Dirty John). "
Ubisoft is known for creating innovative video games that combine immense worlds with rich narratives," said the company's Director of Development for Television Danielle Kreinik, who will produce the TV show alongside Jason Altman. According to THR, the
Skull & Bones series is "
a female-driven drama set in the lawless frontier of the Indian Ocean at the end of the golden age of piracy in the 1700s."
The series pilot will be written by Amanda Segel (
Shooter, The MIst), with Andy Horwitz (
American Hustle, Suicide Squad) and Richard Suckle (
Wonder Woman, The Whole Truth) serving as producers.
While
Skull & Bones is the latest project in Ubisoft's push into film and TV, ist Motion Picture branch is also developing a live-action comedy set in a game development studio (from
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day), a
Child of Light TV show, a
Werewolves Within movie, Screen Gems'
Just Dance flick, and a
Tom Clancy's The Division feature film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain, helmed by
Deadpool 2 Director and
John Wick Co-Director David Leitch.
It is the Golden Age of Piracy. Renegade captains command the most powerful weapons on Earth: warships. You are a pirate captain who has refused the king’s pardon and sailed from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, an untamed frontier full of lavish riches. However, these waters are also a battleground where far-reaching colonial empires, powerful trading corporations, and ruthless pirate gangs clash. In order to survive, you will have to build a lethal fleet, prey upon lucrative trade routes, and ally with other pirates in your endless struggle for supremacy.
Skull & Bones is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019.
