Earlier this year, Telltale Games assured fans that development on The Wolf Among Us 2 was still progressing. The highly anticipated sequel, announced in 2018, had been hit with numerous delays and setbacks, including the studio shutting down and being revived again.
Despite all the turmoil, Telltale told IGN that The Wolf Among Us 2 was still "in production. "They even shared four screenshots from the game, which you can still see here.
However, since that update in April, we haven't heard or seen much about the game. And this week, speculation started to spread that The Wolf Among Us 2 was facing major development issues and was maybe even canceled!
The speculation stemmed from an unsubstantiated rumor posted to Reddit. And like all rumors, it continued to pick up steam on the internet, forcing Telltale Games to respond. The developer issued a response Eurogamer, stating:
"As a rule, we don't comment on rumours and unsubstantiated reddit threads. But development on The Wolf Among Us 2 continues and we're excited to share more about the game with Telltale fans and our community when the time is right."
The Wolf Among Us is an episodic graphic adventure game based on Bill Willingham's Fables comic book series. Set in the modern day, the series features various characters from fairy tales and folklore who formed a clandestine community in New York City known as Fabletown. The se.ries offers a mature and gritty take on these beloved fairytale and folklore characters
Telltale's game is actually a prequel to the comic book series. The player controls Fabletown sheriff Bigby Wolf, who must investigate a series of mysterious murders. The narrative adventure was told in episodic releases throughout 2013 and 2014. The synopsis reads:
Fairytale characters are being murdered in this hard-boiled, violent and mature thriller based on the award-winning Fables comic book series (DC Comics/Vertigo) by Bill Willingham. As Bigby Wolf – THE big bad wolf – you will discover that a brutal, bloody murder is just a taste of things to come in a game series where your every decision can have enormous consequences.
The Wolf Among Us game was generally well-received by fans and critics. In July 2017, Telltale announced that a second season would be released in 2018. Six years later, we're still waiting.
In the meantime, if you've yet to play the first season, it's available on Xbox, Playstation and PC. It consists of five episodes.
