Ubisoft ahs some great news for fans of the critically acclaimed, and long-running Assassin's Creed series, as the developer has recently announced that Assassin's Creed Origins — chronologically the first game in the series — will be free to play this weekend, although there is a caveat.

According to the announcement, Assassin's Creed Origins will be available for free this weekend — more in particular, from Friday the 19th of June until Sunday the 21st of June — and this is only for Uplay users, so you will need to create an account beforehand.

Assassin's Creed Origins is an interesting title for the series, since it was a game that turned the traditional Assassin's Creed formula into an action-adventure series with role-playing elements. For this reason, Origins was heavily criticised at launch, and is still considered a relatively divisive title.

Despite the initial backlash, players have now embrced Ubisoft's new formula for Assassin's Creed games, and some players even consider Assassin's Creed Origins to be one of the best entries in the series, and almost comparable to the widely beloved Assassin's Creed 2.

If you were one of those players that never got around to playing Assassin's Creed Origins, now is definitely your chance to, well, give the game a chance and see if it is something you'd like to pay for; it may keep you busy while you wait for Assassin's Creed Valhalla to release later this year.

Ancient Egypt, a land of majesty and intrigue, is disappearing in a ruthless fight for power. Unveil dark secrets and forgotten myths as you go back to the one founding moment: The Origins of the Assassin’s Brotherhood.

Assassin's Creed Origins is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
