Ever since Ubisoft decided to completely update the gameplay style of the Assassin's Creed franchise with Assassin's Creed Origins, things have both improved and simultaneously gotten a bit more confusing, from a lore perspective. While many would argue that things started to get strange after the character of Desmond Miles was not the focus of the franchise, it is unanimously decided that continuity took a backseat with Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
The confusion began with the option to chose between two protagonists to experience the same story, Alexios and Kassandra. While the narrative largely is the same, many fans wanted to know who the canon character was. Things became even more confusing when the upcoming title, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, has Eivor as both a male and female, with the story saying that the choice doesn't really matter for the full experience.
While this raises more questions, fans can now rest easy as it has now been officially confirmed who the canon protagonist for the previous installment is. According to files found in the game, when the player exit the animus, Kassandra was, in fact, the bearer of the staff of Pythagoras, meaning that she is the assassin players should choose if they want a fully authentic AC experience.
Whether or not this news is expected or surprising, it goes without saying that it's nice to have an answer from the creators. What will other easter eggs be found in the new game upon release? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
Set in 873 AD, the game recounts a fictional story of the Viking invasion of Britain. The player controls Eivor, a Viking raider who becomes embroiled in the conflict between the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar Order.
