Mike Laidlaw is an acclaimed gave developer who has worked in the video game industry for 14 years, spending most of that time at BioWare studio in Edmonton, Alberta. In 2017, Laidlaw officially announced that he's parting ways with BioWare to take a break to catch up on gaming and increase his presence on streaming site Twitch to support independent titles and share his passion with his fans.
During his time at BioWare, Mike has played a key role in the development of many BioWare titles, such as
Jade Empire, Mass Effect, and
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. Laidlaw also was one of the key figures and an informal "father" of the
Dragon Age series, as he was Lead Designer on
Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, and finally 2014’s Game of the Year
Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Today, Ubisoft announced that Laidlaw's break is over and he's coming back to the world of video game development. In fact, he's already working on a new game, helping the developers at Ubisoft Quebec make their next title. "
From day one, I was blown away by the talent, the creativity and the passion of the Québec team” said Mike Laidlaw. “
Over the past few months, I also discovered the city and its welcoming people, which convinced me to move here and officially join Ubisoft Québec.”
“
We are thrilled to welcome Mike into the Ubisoft Québec family”, mentioned Patrick Klaus, studio Managing Director. “
With his vast experience and his unique creative vision, we know he will bring something bold to the studio.” Senior Producer Jeff Skalski added: “
Having Mike join our team and studio is a game changer and we’re excited to have him onboard. He’s the perfect fit for our project and I can’t wait for everyone to experience the results.”
Ubisoft Quebec’s latest game,
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, is not only critically acclaimed, but even has a chance to win big at tomorrow's Game Awards 2018, as it's one of the nominees for the Game of the Year title. Considering that
Odyssey pushes the series even further into the RPG territory, Laidlaw's past experience at BioWare will surely allow the team to learn more about crafting a satisfying RPG.
Take control of your destiny and write your own epic odyssey as you journey to become a legendary Spartan hero. Live incredible adventures in a world where every choice matters. Rejected by your family, you must embark on an adventure from outcast mercenary to legendary Spartan hero to uncover the truth about your past.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
