Gearbox Software has officially revealed Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts, a brand-new DLC expansion for the popular co-op roguelike shooter. The announcement was made during the Triple-i Initiative showcase on Thursday and promises to expand the game’s dark lore by taking players further into the mysterious, cult-like domain of N’Kuhana.

According to the brief reveal, Hallowed Concepts will introduce new areas to explore on the planet Petrichor V, horrific new enemies, and entirely new powers and abilities never before seen in Risk of Rain 2. While no specific release date was given, Gearbox confirmed the DLC is “coming soon,” with more detailed information expected in the months leading up to launch.

The expansion appears to focus heavily on the unsettling, cult-themed corner of the Risk of Rain universe centered around N’Kuhana. Fans of the base game’s haunting atmosphere and escalating difficulty should find plenty to look forward to, especially with the promise of fresh enemy designs and powerful new survivor abilities.

Risk of Rain 2 originally launched in early access in 2019 before receiving its full 1.0 release. Developed initially by Hopoo Games, the title shifted to Gearbox Publishing in 2022. Hopoo stepped away from the project entirely after the acquisition, and many of its key members later joined Valve. Despite the change in stewardship, Gearbox has continued supporting the game with updates and now this new paid expansion.

Hallowed Concepts marks the first major paid DLC for Risk of Rain 2 in several years. The base game already boasts a dedicated community thanks to its addictive gameplay loop, deep item synergies, and challenging runs. Adding new stages, enemies, and powers could breathe fresh life into the experience for both veteran players and those returning after a long break.

The cult-like horror theme tied to N’Kuhana also opens the door for darker narrative elements and visually striking environments that differ from the more alien and mechanical biomes seen so far.

While details remain limited, the announcement has already generated significant excitement. Fans are eager to see how the new content integrates with the existing roster of survivors and whether it will introduce any major mechanical changes or balance updates alongside the fresh material.

Gearbox has promised more information in the lead-up to release, so players can anticipate dedicated trailers, survivor spotlights, and possibly gameplay footage in the coming months. No pricing or exact launch window has been shared yet, but “coming soon” suggests it could arrive sometime in the second half of 2026.

In the meantime, Risk of Rain 2 remains fully playable with all previous updates and Survivors of the Void content still available. The announcement of Hallowed Concepts serves as a strong reminder that the game continues to receive support years after its initial launch.

Are you planning to dive back into Petrichor V when the Hallowed Concepts DLC arrives? The promise of new horrors and powers has many longtime fans ready to start fresh runs once it launches.
