Spider-Man was a hit when it released in 2018, while Spider-Man: Miles Morales remains perhaps one of the best showcases of what the PlayStation 5 can do.
It's hardly surprising then that there's so much excitement for Spider-Man 2. Insomniac Games may have taken liberties with the source material in both previous instalments, but between the incredible visuals, compelling story, and obvious respect for the comic books, it didn't ultimately matter.
The sequel promises to make more big changes with Venom, as Harry Osborn is currently expected to don the alien suit (in place of Eddie Brock) to take aim at Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Now, Bill Rosemann, the Vice President and Creative Director of Marvel Games, has teased the villain's motivations.
"What makes Venom so scary, [is] he doesn't want to rob banks," the executive teases in the video below. "He doesn't want to take over the world, Venom wants to kill Spider-Man, [so] there's an element of fear."
Rosemann would go on to say that the Symbiote is akin to an addiction for its host, corrupting their mind and providing raw power in exchange. That's going to have a significant impact on Peter, hence why trailers have strongly hinted the web-slinger is going to head down a dark path.
The synopsis for the game reads, "Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, return for an exciting new adventure in the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise."
"Swing, jump and utilise the new Web Wings to travel across Marvel’s New York, quickly switching between Peter Parker and Miles Morales to experience different stories and epic new powers, as the iconic villain Venom threatens to destroy their lives, their city and the ones they love."
Spider-Man 2 swings into stores on October 20.
