OVERKILL'S THE WALKING DEAD Delayed Until February 2019 For Consoles; PC Release Unchanged

Overkill's The Walking Dead, the upcoming team-based shooter set in the post-apocalyptic world inspired by Robert Kirkman graphic novel of the same name, has been delayed on consoles. According to a statement from developer Starbreeze, the game will release for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in February 2019, three months later than its original November 6th release.

Despite a rather unimpressive gameplay trailer shown at E3 a few months back, the delay actually has nothing to do with the development of the game. Instead, it has to do with maximizing sales. The full statement from Starbreeze reads:

505 Games, which owns the publishing rights to the console version of Overkill’s The Walking Dead, has decided to release the console version of the game in February instead of November, as previously planned. They have opted to do this because they want to ensure a simultaneous release of the console version digitally and in stores to achieve optimal marketing impact and maximize sales. The important global release of the PC version is planned for 6 November. Notably, according to the current plan we will be recognizing the advance royalty of USD $10 million we have received from 505 Games for the console version in the fourth quarter of this year.

As previously detailed, the game is very much team-oriented with each character having their own play style, special abilities, and squad roles. Check out the gameplay trailer below.

OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead is a four player co-op action FPS, where you and your friends fight the dead as well as the living. Set in The Walking Dead Universe, you and your group tries to survive in a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C.

The PC version of Overkill's The Walking Dead is still slated to release on November 6. You can check out the game's page on Steam here.
