Apex Legends had a massive debut back in February. The free-to-play battle royale game quickly grew to become a major name in the industry — arguably on the same level as Fortnite. Though the shooter began as simply a reworking of Titanfall 3, Electronic Arts now considers Apex Legends one of its core franchises.

Respawn Entertainment recently announced via social media that Apex Legends has officially hit seventy million players worldwide. That's an impressive feat for sure that many games could only dream of achieving. With Apex Legends being as big as it is and EA knowing this, they have big plans for the game next year.

Reputable games industry insider Daniel Ahmad recently revealed on Twitter that Respawn Entertainment and EA are planning to bring Apex Legends to mobile devices. At that, they're also planning to launch the battle royale game in China and majorly amp up its presence in the eSports scene.

Below you can check out both the official tweet by Respawn (via @PlayApex) about the game's playerbase and Ahmad's tweet (@ZhugeEX) about the future of Apex Legends.

In other Apex Legends news, the game will be made available to play via Steam in 2020 — as per EA's new partnership with Valve.
