Nintendo had already suprised fans of the
Super Smash Bros. series with the reveal that the heroes from Square Enix's iconic
Dragon Quest series were joining the roster of
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate; little did they know that the announcements weren't over.
In what's likely one of the most surprising announcements during the Nintendo Direct for this year's E3, seeing Banjo and Kazooie, from the Microsoft-owned developer Rare, becoming the next fighters to join
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster as part of the Fighters Pass; expected to become available
this Fall.
Banjo and Kazooie stem from the classic 3D platformer
Banjo-Kazooie series, which was originally released for the Nintendo 64; right before the developer was bought out by Microsoft. Now that Microsoft and Nintendo have such an interesting relationship, it was almost a matter of time until we finally got to see these beloved characters showing up on a Nintendo console again.
