Koei Tecmo is officially working on a sequel to its Soulslike action-RPG
Nioh, Sony revealed during its E3 2018 media briefing on Monday. The first game launched worldwide last year and sold over a million units in just over a month, quickly becoming one of the Japanese publisher's most successful titles.
During an interview with the PlayStation crew, director Fumihiko Yasuda and Team Ninja shared the first details on the game including its character creation and story.
Nioh 2 will still be a difficult game, “
masocore,” to quote Yasuda, but the developer is hoping to create “m
ore satisfying deaths for players.” But you don't have to be familiar with the
Nioh world, as the sequel can be played and enjoyed by newcomers, but players who enjoyed
Nioh will appreciate some story connection more.
Your protagonist, who will be created using debuting character creation tools, choosing the gender, race, and other features, can harness the Yokai power, which will take the "
action to the next level". "
We’ve seen samurai-versus-yokai and samurai-versus-samurai before, but this time around we’re going to have yokai-versus-samurai and yokai-versus-yokai as well, so you’ll be able to feel some of the yokai skills and moves, which should bring the action system to the next level," Yasuda said.
Nioh 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, and just like the first game will be available on PS4 first.
