Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell was one of the franchises that has helped to shape Ubisoft's approach to designing games. Created in Montreal,
Splinter Cell was released in 2002 and from that very moment, gamers realized that greatness awaits.
Chaos Theory hit the stores three years later and till this day remains the highest-reviewed game in the publisher history, reaching astonishing 94% on Metacritic.
In March, Amazon posted a placeholder for
Splinter Cell 2018, suggesting that Ubisoft was getting ready to talk about the future of Sam Fisher and The Fourth Echelon. A month later, the studio officially announced that the legendary spy will join
Ghost Recon: Wildlands is a special event titled
Special Operation #1. This DLC also brought back the original voice of Sam Fisher, Michael Ironside.
To celebrate the expansion’s launch, the beloved actor had a chance to elaborate on his return to the role in an interview with Inside Xbox. "
I am Sam Fisher," Ironside said. Then, he hinted at the possibility of a new game in the franchise, although he was quite vague on the matter: "
Let's see if the storylines allow an organic [way to bring]
Sam back." In May, Walmart Canada dropped the real bomb.
Splinter Cell was among many games accidentally listed by Walmart, titles like (ultimately officially announced before E3 2018)
Rage 2, Forza Horizon 4, Gears of War 5, and
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.
Sadly,
Splinter Cell 7 wasn't spotlighted during yesterday's Ubisoft E3 2018 conference. In an interview with Geoff Keighley, Ubisoft President and CEO Yves Guillemot was asked why Splinter Cell didn’t make the show and said "
We love the brand. We really want it to come back but I can’t say much today.” A competent campaign and a
PUBG-like multiplayer mode with mercenaries and spies would be a dream come true, but it looks like we will have to wait to see the return of Sam Fisher for a little longer.
