Monster Hunter: World has had a great year since it was first released on the 26th of January in 2018. Upon releasing, the game got rave reviews from critics —
scoring an impressive 91 on Metacritic; a score that has barely changed over the course of a year, currently sitting at 90.
The game's fantastic reception, as well as its quality as a proper
Monster Hunter title, managed to make
Monster Hunter: World the
fastest-selling game in Capcom's history — with over 6 million copies shipped as of February 9th of 2018.
In May of last year, Capcom also announced that
Monster Hunter: World was not only their fastest-selling game, but also their
best-selling game of all time with a staggering 7.5 million units sold — which included both physical and digital sales; setting a new record for Capcom as they achieved five consecutive years of operating income growth.
Monster Hunter: World has also been getting content in collaboration with acclaimed video game series like
Mega Man,
Devil May Cry,
Horizon Zero Dawn,
Final Fantasy XIV Online, and
Assassin's Creed — with a
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt collaboration on the way and the game's biggest expansion in the form of
Monster Hunter: World - Iceborn coming out in
Autumn of 2019.
As Capcom looks back on the success that the game has seen since its launch, the developer has released a new video celebrating
Monster Hunter: World's one year anniversary, promising that they have even more updates coming out in the future.
