As MultiVersus rumbles to its launch later this month, Warner Bros. Games and developer Player First Games have revealed a new trailer announcing the arrival of a new playable character.
The Joker is the latest DC Villain to join the fray, and today's trailer confirms he will be voiced by none other than Mark Hamill in the game.
Hamill is no stranger to voicing the iconic DC Super Villain, having done so in Batman: The Animated Series, Mask of the Phantasm, New Batman Adventures, Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. He also provided the voice of Joker for Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham games.
Check out his latest portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime in the teaser reveal below.
Hamill return to voice The Joker is a bit of a surprise as he told a crowd at a FanExpo event last November that he would never portray the character again. The legendary actor refused to reprise the role without the late Kevin Conroy as Batman. Perhaps he made an exception as Conroy, who passed away in November 2022, did provide the voice for Batman in MultiVersus.
The teaser trailer above doesn't really provide any insight into the Joker's moveset in MultiVersus; however, Player First Games did show off the character's emote and info card over on the game's Discord server. The card listed a few of his moves including:
- Crowbarred!: Swing a crowbar upward (Chargeable)
- Dirty Dealer!: Throw a card projectile that cycles through three various effects
- Blastoff!: Fire a rocket launcher projectile (Chargeable)
Developed by Player First Games, MultiVersus is a free-to-play crossover fighting game that features a roster based on Warner Bros. Discovery franchises, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Black Adam, and The Joker (DC); Shaggy and Velma (Scooby-Doo); Bugs Bunny, Tasmanian Devil a.k.a. Taz, and Marvin the Martian (Looney Tunes); Arya Stark (Game of Thrones); Tom & Jerry (Tom and Jerry); Finn the Human and Jake the Dog (Adventure Time); Steven Universe and Garnet (Steven Universe); Iron Giant (The Iron Giant), LeBron James (Space Jam: A New Legacy); Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith (Rick and Morty); Gizmo and Stripe (Gremlins); and an extraordinary original creature named Reindog.
MultiVersus, which has drawn comparisons to Nintendo's Smash Bros. franchise, had been playable in an open beta that ran from July 2022 to June 2023. It was temporarily shut down which allowed Player First Games to make improvements, and now the game is officially set to launch on May 28. It will be free to download for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC with full crossplay and cross-progression support.
