SOULCALIBUR VI: Producer Comments On The Possibility Of The Game Releasing On The Nintendo Switch

We may have some potentially sour news for fans of the SoulCalibur series who keep waiting for the latest entry in the series, SoulCalibur VI, to release on Nintendo's handheld hybrid console, as it seems that the developers haven't really given it much thought just yet.

For those who may not remember about this: SoulCalibur VI Producer Motohiro Okubo mentioned, all the way back in August of 2018, that a port of SoulCalibur VI releasing on the Nintendo Switch was a very plausible idea. It's been over a year and a half since then, and it seems that a port releasing for the Switch is a lot less plausible than before.

This new information comes from an interview Okubo had with SoulCalibur Community during this year's EVO JAPAN 2020 event, in which he was quite honest about the state of the whole porting of the game on the Nintendo Switch — revealing that they haven't really had the time to even think about porting SoulCalibur VI to the Switch.

"If I have to answer seriously, I think I remember telling you previously that we’re not sure we can port the game to Nintendo Switch," explained Okubo when the interviewer asked him when was the port of SoulCalibur VI going to be released on the Switch.

"I said we have to examine and look into that, and well… When I said that, I didn’t know if we’d have a Season 2 yet and now that we have one, I’ll be totally honest by saying we didn’t have time to look into that. So basically, the situation hasn’t changed much."

This is definitely some disappointing news for anyone still hoping for the Nintendo Switch version of SoulCalibur VI to release any time soon. Nintendo hasn't had a SoulCalibur game releason on one of their consoles since SoulCalibur Legends release for the Wii in 2007, so it is more than understandable to see fans still wanting a proper title released on the Switch.

SOULCALIBUR VI represents the latest entry in the premier weapons-based, head-to-head fighting series and continues the epic struggle of warriors searching for the legendary Soul Swords. Taking place in the 16th century, revisit the events of the original SOULCALIBUR to uncover hidden truths.

SoulCalibur VI is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
