SOULCALIBUR VI Game Producer Says That A Nintendo Switch Port Of The Game Is Plausible

Bandai Namco's SoulCalibur VI  was announced in December of 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC—welcoming players back to the stage of history.—and will be released on the 19th of October.

While the game was coming out for pretty much every current system, Nintendo's handheld didn't even get a mention in regards to Bandai Namco's latest entry in the SoulCalibur series of games. This isn't too unexpected given that many would consider SoulCalibur VI a game too demanding for the Nintendo handheld's hardware.

Bandai Namco has recently announced that Dragon Ball FighterZ is being ported to the Nintendo Switch and, while there are some small compromises that needed to be made, the game looks almost as good as it does on other consoles. While these two are completely different games that rely on different graphics to deliver the desired experience, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to think SoulCalibur couldn't be ported in a similar fashion.

DualShockers recently sat down with SoulCalibur VI Game Producer, Motohiro Okubo, and asked him about some rumours that have been going around. These rumours claim that a Nintendo Switch version of the game may actually be already in the works.

Okubo mentioned that the rumours aren't true and Bandai Namco aren't currently working on said SoulCalibur VI port, by saying that "at the moment there is no development for Switch at all. I understand that the Switch is a very successful hardware, and of course if there is a possibility, then it would be great to do it".

"At the moment we’re focusing on the October 19th launch, so we don’t even have the time to think about that possibility. After the launch we’ll think about the possibility", explained Okubo—putting those Nitnendo Switch port rumours to rest.

SoulCalibur games have been released for Nintendo consoles in the past with SoulCalibur 2 for the GameCube and SoulCalibur Legends for the Wii, although they skipped the Nintendo Wii U due to the console outperforming in sales. While Okubo's sayings don't necessarily confirm that a SoulCalibur VI port of the game will eventually come out for the Nintendo Switch, these are great news as they are aware of the console's popularity, and are willing to port the game if they see fit.

SOULCALIBUR VI represents the latest entry in the premier weapons-based, head-to-head fighting series and continues the epic struggle of warriors searching for the legendary Soul Swords. Taking place in the 16th century, revisit the events of the original SOULCALIBUR to uncover hidden truths.

SoulCalibur VI will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on the 19th of October.
