Milla Jovovich is going from fighting zombies (and Umbrella Corporation) to taking on big a** monsters. The actress, who starred in the
Resident Evil movie franchise, will now head to the world of
Monster Hunter, yet another Capcom game that's being turned into a movie.
Variety reports that production on Constantin Film's
Monster Hunter adaptation will begin in September and will reunite the
Resident Evil crew of Jovovich, director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt. The movie has a reported budget of $60 million.
Depending on how you felt about the
Resident Evil movie franchise, which differed drastically from the games, this is either good or bad news for gamers. But regardless of your thoughts on the direction of the
Resident Evil movies, there's no denying they were a financial success;
Resident Evil: the Final Chapter grossed $312 million worldwide.
Toronto's Technicolor-owned Mr. X, which also worked on the
Resident Evil franchise, will supply the special effects on
Monster Hunter, which is said to be a "highly stylish big screen adaptation of the video game."
“Paul has proven over and over he does stylish movies. It’s one of his big strong points. He can mak: "e a movie look good, is very much into visuals,” Constantin Film CEO Martin Moszkowicz said of the chosen director. Moszkowicz added that Monster Hunter is also envisioned as a film series. "We are in the business of brand creation," he said.
Capcom announced on Wednesday that Monster Hunter: World is the publisher's best-selling game of all time, shipping 7.9 million copies since its January release this year.
