It's difficult to imagine a world in which Mortal Kombat, as a video game series, doesn't exist. After being introduced to the world in 1992, Mortal Kombat became an instant hit, as well as a quite controversial title due to its violent content; the kind of content that ended up leading to the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board most commonly known as the ESRB.
After having established itself as a household name, as well as one of the best video game fighting series out there, Mortal Kombat has recently seen the release of its 11th entry in the main line series of games; an achievement that not many main series of any genre have been able to reach.
The Mortal Kombat series has recently reached another milestone, as Ed Boon revealed that the very first Mortal Kombat title has been inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame today; joined by other iconic titles such as William Crowther and Don Woods' Colossal Cave Adventure, Nintendo's Super Mario Kart, and the Microsoft Windows built-in Solitaire.
Mortal Kombat, Colossal Cave Adventure, Super Mario Kart, and Solitaire were the ones selected among thousands of nominations. Finalists included other renowned titles such as Candy Crush Saga, Centipede, Dance Dance Revolution, Half-Life, Myst, NBA 2K, Sid Meier's Civiliztion, and Super Smash Bros. Melee.
