BATTLEFIELD V PC First Look Showcases The Outstanding Evolution Of The Frostbite Engine

DICE's Frostbite engine is the base of most of EA's modern games, from FIFA 19 and Need for Speed Payback to Mass Effect: Andromeda, and it looks like Battlefield 5's PC version pushes the limits even further!

The Frostbite engine was originally implemented in the Battlefield series, but would later be expanded to other first-person shooter games and a variety of other genres. To date, Frostbite has been exclusive to projects published and developed by Electronic Arts using DICE's flexible tools, including Mass Effect: Andromeda, Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel, Need for Speed: The Run and even Madden NFL 18.

The first Battlefield V teaser claimed that the impressive footage on display was all in-engine, and based on the gameplay footage that has been released since the game's alpha test launch, it looks like that claim wasn't completely untrue. The Digital Foundry crew recently had a chance to check out BV's latest build and examined the Frostbite engine upgrades, the new destruction model and how the alpha currently runs on mainstream favorites GTX 1060 and RX 580.

The results should make a lot of players happy, as EA DICE will continue to collect feedback, identify bugs, and rebalance elements of the game during the closed alpha period, and EA has laid out the minimum and recommended specs for the Battlefield V closed alpha, and there's a chance these are the same requirements you can expect to see after the launch in order to run the game on PC.
