Borderlands 3 will finally be releasing on Friday. Paul Sage, the director of the forthcoming installment, recently participated in an interview with
VG247 wherein he talked about the future of the
Borderlands franchise.
There's already a live-action
Borderlands movie in the works at Lionsgate but Sage wants to see the franchise branch out into even more forms of entertainment. The game director explained that Gearbox Software were only recently talking about the possibility of an anime adaptation.
“We were talking the other day about, would it be a good, almost like an anime type thing?”
“You know, somebody brought up ‘Love, Death & Robots’ to me,” that being an animated Netflix sci-fi anthology series produced by David Fincher. “And I was like, oh hell yeah! That’d be a lot of fun. I’d love to see things like that, honestly. We’ll see what the future holds. I mean, hopefully, people love the game. And hopefully, they love all the source material and they want to do that.”
Furthermore, Sage then mentioned a more eccentric idea — that being a Borderlands-themed amusement park.
“A Borderlands theme park… Yes! I’ll take a Borderlands theme park! I’m trying to think of what would be the most obvious ride that you would have… would it be Claptrap’s Cave? You know, when I was a kid, I used to go to Six Flags all the time, and going into the cave was always so fun. And the log ride. So yeah, I’d totally dig something like that."
While the franchise would fit both of Sage's ideas, a Borderlands anime coming to fruition is infinitely more likely to occur than a Borderlands theme park — and is fittingly the preferred option of the two.
Borderlands 3 will release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 13th, 2019.
