Physical copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 are reportedly unplayable without the day-one patch.

A recent report by VG247 brought attention to a Twitter user who's already gotten their hands on a copy of the highly-anticipated first-person-shooter. However, like the rest of us, they'll have to wait until the 12th before they're actually able to play it. Inserting the disc and booting up the game, at the moment, will show you the message: “An update is required to play Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.”

You can check out the Twitter user's post below (as well as a couple of more recent follow-up ones):

Though this is unfortunate for those with early copies, it isn't wholly unexpected. The previous instalment in the long-running series, Call of Duty: WWII, also required the day-one patch. However, WWII had a singleplayer campaign which was playable before launch, whereas Black Ops 4 does not - meaning that, without an internet connection, the game's disc is useless.

What do you think of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 being unplayable without first downloading the day-one patch?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases on October 12th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
