This year's Call of Duty video game release (we're *assuming* Modern Warfare 3) was mentioned during yesterdays year-end investor conference call.
During the call, Activision COO and CFO Thomas Tippl said that the franchise will have higher digital revenues than last year, thanks to an expanded slate of downloadable content, but the company is projecting lower retail sales for the game compared to Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Tippl reminded investors that is consistent with the approach that Activision took with Call of Duty: Black Ops, which it had initially projected to sell fewer copies than 2009's hit Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Those projections ultimately proved false when Black Ops shattered expectations when it set new entertainment records by bringing in more than $650 million in its first five days of release, and has since passed the billion dollar mark.
