It was only a matter of time before the Call of Duty franchise was called out after the Battlefield Gameplay Video Buzz that hit last week.
The following was recently tweeted to Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling about the time that the Battlefield 3 gameplay footage was hitting the web:
"someone just needs to spend the $ and construct a new engine for the CoD franchise... Ground up"
Bowling's response probably won't go over well with fans of the franchise...
"That would be counter productive. An engine takes years and years to develop and get right."
The Call of Duty games have been running on the same Infinity Ward engine that was used in 2005's Call of Duty 2. Each iteration in the series has been modified, and it sounds like the next title in the franchise will be no different.
Infinity Ward is rumoured to be co-developing the game for release later this year with fellow Activision studios Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software.
