Just how excited are gamers for the new Call of Duty? Well, if the participation in the most recent Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 open beta is any indication, pretty excited.

Activision announced today that the Black Ops 6 open beta, which took place this past week, was the biggest Call of Duty beta ever. According to data from the early access and open beta weekends, it was number one in total players, hours played, playtime per player, and most matches played.

So not only did a ton of people play the beta, but they also played it for a while. The fact that it was the most playtime per player and the most matches played are indications that people enjoyed what they were playing.

Launching in October, Black Ops 6 includes a single-player campaign story, a robust multiplayer suite, and the return of the fan-favorite Zombies co-op mode. The campaign is a continuation of Black Ops Cold War's story is described as a "dynamic and intense spy thriller." With a shadowy clandestine force having infiltrated the CIA, the BlLack Ops 6 story follows Black Ops veteran Frank Woods and his team -- exiled from their agency -- hunted by the military machine that created them.

The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.

The multiplayer mode will feature 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6. Black Ops 6 also sees the return of a more traditional Prestige system. One of the big new gameplay mechanics this year is the introduction of omnidirectional movement, allowing players to spring, dive, and slide in any direction.

And finally, we've got the return of Zombies. The action is set across two brand new maps available at launch: Terminus and Liberty Falls.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to launch on October 25, 2024. The game will be available for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. As Activision is now owned by Microsoft, Black Ops 6 will also be available as a day-one title on Game Pass, free for anyone with a subscription.
