By this time back in 2018, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 had been released. Last year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare released in September. We're right in the midst of the Call of Duty time of year and yet the next entry in the long-running first-person shooter series is yet to even be revealed.
However, there has been many a leak pertaining to Call of Duty 2020 over the past couple of months. Most recently, a Doritos promotional tie-in surfaced online which revealed the title and logo of the next mainline Call of Duty game — that being Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Elsewhere in the world of Call of Duty; the fifth season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone recently kicked off — more on that here. What's more, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is available for free with PlayStation Plus until August 21st — more on that here.
Back to Call of Duty 2020, though. Activision recently revealed that the next Call of Duty game is being developed by both Treyarch Studios and Raven Software. While the former was no surprise, as Infinity Ward and Treyarch typically alternate Call of Duty development yearly, Raven Software's involvement is unexpected.
Raven Software developed the Chinese variant of Call of Duty, Call of Duty: Online. They also handled the remaster of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and similarly worked with Infinity Ward on Call of Duty: Warzone (the more recent iteration of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's battle royale tie-in).
Activision (via Charlie INTEL) confirmed Call of Duty 2020 will indeed still launch this year — in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Activision will continue to build on its direct digital relationship with this expanded community as it delivers the next premium installment for Call of Duty, which comes from the wholly owned Call of Duty studios Treyarch and Raven Software."
Treyarch and Raven Software, however, declared their eagerness to reveal what they've been working on over on social media — as you can see below (via @Treyarch, @RavenSoftware):
