What if everything you thought you knew about the geopolitical conflict of the early Nineties has been a lie?
That seems to be the premise of the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 game coming later this year.
With a full reveal set for on June 9, Activision has released a live-action teaser that gives us a "glimpse into the dark new chapter of the Call of Duty franchise."
The video seems to confirm that this year's game will revisit the Gulf War, an armed conflict between Iraq and a 42-country coalition led by the United States between 1990-1991.
The trailer is full of political intrigue and cryptic admissions from key political figures of power in the early '90s. Former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush, as well as ex-UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Iraq leader Saddam Hussein, sit in the shadows and allude to some sort of grand conspiracy that players will presumably unravel over the course of the Black Ops 6 campaign.
"Truth is, your whole life is a lie," Clinton says, with tension building as we hear from other world leaders.
"While we build your trust, the world falls apart around you," George H. W. Bush adds with a smirk. "If you weren't so distracted, you'd realize..."
“Nothing is what it seems,” Saddam Hussein concludes. “But if it’s truth you seek… look in the dark.”
The latest teaser comes on the heels of Activision launching a viral website, TheTruthLies.com, which contains found footage videos of a mysterious group attempting to open our eyes to a giant world government conspiracy.
While the viral videos and live-action trailer finally give us the basic premise of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, we'll likely get more story details next month during the Xbox Games Showcase.
Microsoft has already confirmed Black Ops 6 will be "revealed" during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9 at 10:00 a.m. PT, which hopefully means a lengthier trailer that explains more of the campaign's story. The Xbox Showcase will be followed by a Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct presentation that will provide an in-depth look at all-new gameplay and product announcements.
This hopefully means we'll get a solid release date and official platforms, although there have already been reports on both of these topics. It's rumored that Black Ops 6 will release in late October — probably October 25th — and that it'll be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4, as well as PC. Microsoft also confirmed today that Black Ops 6 will be a launch day title on Game Pass, meaning it will be free for those who subscribe to the Xbox gaming service. There will likely be various upgrades or collector's editions available for those who want DLC, in-game bonuses, and more.
