It seems one of the goals for Bungie heading into Destiny 2 was to be much more transparent with when new content would be made available in the game. As such, Destiny 2 will be broken down by year and then further organized into four seasons. Case in point, gamers are currently in Destiny 2 - Year 1; Season 1. It's thought that these seasons will coincide with the four seasons of Fall Winter Spring and Summer as Season 2 will kick off with the return of The Dawning and will have a Winter Wonderland theme. Each season will also contain what Bungie calls "rituals" which they describe as being similar to the Faction Rally and Iron Banner.
In additon, each season will see new cosmetic items introduced while others are taken away. So if there's a particular Legendary or Exotic emote, ship, sparrow or shader you're partial to, you'll have a limited window to obtain it. It seems Bungie will also wait to make changes to particular weapons and gameplay mechanics until the next season. So if you're looking for Hand Cannons to get a boost and Auto Rifles to get nerfed, you'll have to wait until Season 2.
The Dawing will also see visual changes made to The Tower and The Farm, which will both be covered in snow. Each space will have different mini-games like ice hockey and snowball fights. Below, you can check out some of the new gear available for each Vanguard class.
Clan rank also resets with each season change so that will be another indicator that a new season is underway.
Iron Banner is also getting overhauled, although it seems Light Level advantage is still a thing of the past. The big change is that in addition to Iron Banner tokens, players will be able to directly purchase Iron Banner guns and armor from Lord Saladin with Legendary shards (no more grinding Iron Banner for hours upon hours for the same submachine gun and boots!). Check out some of the new armor sets coming in Season 2's Iron Banner below.
Lastly, Bungie Destiny 2 community manager David “DeeJ” Dague confirmed via Twitter that there will be no Festival of the Lost Halloween event this year.
