Destiny's Festival of the Lost has so much untapped potential for guardians, but Bungie ultimately decided to go for the money grab instead of making an event that is balanced and for everyone. The goal of the festival is to accumulate cool masks, some weapon ornaments, some ghosts and a speeder bike. Sounds great right? Here is the catch. Most of the stuff is only attainable (high drop rates) using the treasures of the lost. How do you get treasures of the lost? You have to buy them. Yes, you get one completing the quest at the tower, but to get all of the sweet loot REQUIRES you to utilize microtransactions to get them. The worst part of it, is that the masks don't even add value to the light level of a character.
MoreConsole, an avid Destiny player and YouTuber bought 20 treasures of the lost to get almost everything he wanted. 20 chests equals about $40-50. Judging from his video's comment section, other people weren't as lucky as he was. When it comes down to it Festival of the Cost could be turned into The Festival of the Lost pretty easily.
Yes, Bungie is a business and to make Destiny even better they might need some microtransactions, but only quests? They announced a lot of "unannounced" things in the works, but if they're like the Festival of the Lost it won't keep gamers entertained. This is where they can take a page out of World of Warcraft's book and add a boss that lurks around somewhere and to find him you have to compelete a questline. Toss in the headless Aksis, Crota or some other vanquished foe that comes back as a ghost. Players can grind it until they get their desired loot. You can still get some exclusive stuff from microtransactions, but make it fun for those guardians who have already spent $250 on the original game and all the expansions.
