The Taken King has already a tremendously successful launch! With the launch we ask two insiders (yes, I asked myself:) what they think so far of The Taken King. They are currently preparing for the new raid set to release tomorrow at 10:AM PST.
Here are the questions we ask our insiders about The Taken King.
Has The Taken King lived up to the hype?
Taylor Beames, TH3KILLA77: It has been an incredible ride so far. They weren't kidding when it came to the story. For an entire year there were many people who still didn't really know what was going on in the story. The grimoire on the app and online are very choppy and hard to follow, but The Taken King really improves it! New weapons, places to go, quest lines and much much more. There is a lot to do so far in the game and it is awesome!
Nate Best, TheHolyFragger: So far I’m absolutely loving it! I can’t get enough! TTK has breathed new life and a sense of excitement and adventure back into the game. I think it’s a little early to say that whether or not the expansion was overhyped… I’ll have to give it a few weeks at least, but so far it’s been amazing.
What is your favorite part so far?
Taylor Beames, TH3KILLA77: I'm really into the various quest lines and going to the places I haven't been yet. I still really haven't explored the dreadnaught, but I'll get to it this weekend. You really feel accomplished when you finish a hard part in the quest line and get some great booty for it.
Nate Best, TheHolyFragger. I’m SO happy that it wasn’t a huge grind to get to level 40. Between having my bounty queue filled and completed (thanks to being able to hold more bounties) it was just a matter of redeeming a Red Bull code and turning in 10-12 bounties. Right now I’m REALLY enjoying the new story quests. There’s more storytelling in the limited number of quests I’ve done so far than the entire first year of Destiny.
What is your Least favorite part so far?
Taylor Beames, TH3KILLA77: I don't like that you can't upgrade any of the weapons from year 1 into year 2 weapons. Guardians literally spent an entire year working on collecting stuff for nothing. At least they could have made it really difficult to upgrade the year 1 stuff so everyone could dream of having a 290 Gjallahorn.
Nate Best, TheHolyFragger. I’m more than a little upset that the legendary and exotic weapons and armor that I worked so hard to get over the first year are now completely useless. The fact that TTK green items are more powerful than my year one exotics is crazy.
I’m also not a huge fan of having to build my light up after reaching level 40 to unlock the nightfall strike list and new raid. Hopefully I’ll have enough after completing the story quests that it won’t be an issue…
What part are you most excited for that you haven’t gotten to do yet?
Taylor Beames, TH3KILLA77: Since I haven't really seen anything about the raid i'll have to say the court of oryx. That place looks like an awesome challenge that is calling the GameFragger team! After the livestreams this was the place I wanted to go most. I really hope the loot is worth going there.
Nate Best, TheHolyFragger. As far as things that I’m excited to DO, it’s a toss-up between the new raid and the Court of Oryx. I’m also excited to get my hands on my first exotic weapon for TTK. The new sword looks bad @$$!
Which new sub-class do you like best?
Taylor Beames, TH3KILLA77: My first thought is the Sunbreaker but the warlocks arc lightning could take its place. The hammer wrecks everything in sight and when you throw it, it tracks enemies for a powerful blow.
Nate Best, TheHolyFragger. My favorite new sub-class is probably the Sunbreaker… It just seems so powerful! I have a feeling that may change once I finish leveling up my Nightstalker class though. While the Sunbreaker seems to be a great “thrasher” class, I think the Nightstalker is going to end up being more useful when facing hordes of enemies.
What grade would you give it out of 5?
Nate Best: 5 out of 5
Taylor Beames: 4.65 out 5
