Today's Destiny patc, today's patch 2.3.1.0 paves the way for the next DLC, Rise of Iron and as such will be the last bit of support Bungie gives to last-gen consoles the PS3 and Xbox 360.  Starting with Rise of Iron, patches to address bugs, glitches and general gameplay improvements will be reserved for the PS4 and Xbox One.  Bungie's official statement accompanying the patch reads -

"Before the launch of Destiny: Rise of Iron on September 20th, there are a few issues we are fixing. This update will also be the last scheduled deployment for Legacy Consoles, excluding emergency fixes for future game-breaking issues."

As such, last-gen consoles will no longer be able to access community events such as Festival of the Lost (Halloween), Crimson Days (Valentine's Day), the Sparrow Racing League.  The Trials of Osiris and the Iron Banner, major draws for legacy gamers who only play the competitive PvP portion of Destiny will also be reserved for the PS4 and Xbox One.  As such, many last-gen owners are facing the tough decision of whether to drop Destiny or finally make the leap to next-gen. When the news broke, it was a hot topic of debate over on the reddit r/DestinytheGame forums.
