On the heels of Prime Video's Fallout television series debut, Bethesda has announced some exciting news for Fallout 4 players.
The long-awaited and highly-anticipated next-gen upgrades for the game finally have a release date: April 25th!
In a blog post this week, Bethesda confirmed that the free Fallout 4 update for the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 will include native applications, Performance mode and Quality mode settings, as well as stability improvements and fixes. Bethesda claims you'll now be able to experience the game in up to 60 frames per second and/or with increased resolutions — likely depending on the mode you select.
The next-gen update isn't all that's on the way. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game will also receive an update with stability improvements, login and quest fixes.
Over on the PC, Bethesda is releasing a free update to add widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, as well as fixes for Creation Kit and a variety of quest updates. Bethesda also notes:
Players with PC versions of Fallout 4 on Steam, Microsoft Store and GOG will receive stability, mods and bug fixes. For Japanese and Chinese language players on PC, Bethesda.net login issues have been resolved, fixing access to mods.
And for those who prefer their PC gaming on the go, Fallout 4 will now be Steam Deck verified.
Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, Fallout 4 was released in 2015. The game takes place in 2287, 10 years after Fallout 3 and 210 years after the catastrophic nuclear devastation brought on by "The Great War." Players take on the role of a customized character who emerges from cryogenic stasis in Vault 111. After witnessing the murder of their spouse and the kidnapping of their son, players venture out into the post-nuclear world of the Commonwealth to search for their missing son.
Fallout 4 is the fourth main game in the franchise and is considered by many fans to be one of the best. Despite approaching nearly 10 years of age, the recent release of the Fallout TV series by Prime Video has sparked renewed interest in some of the older Fallout games.
Celebrating the release of the series, numerous Fallout games have been made free or have received content inspired by the show. During the month of April, Prime members can download Fallout 76 for free on PC and Xbox. Meanwhile, Amazon Luna members can play Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition and Fallout: New Vegas for free over the next six months. The free-to-play Vault simulator Fallout Shelter has also received a free content update this week.
