Epic Games continues to introduce new ways to play Fortnite. While the classic battle royale experience remains popular, the company is set to introduce a new mode that focuses more on action-packed gameplay.

Arriving today, Fortnite Reload is a new 40-player mode set on a new, "tighter" map that features classic weapons and classic locations, such as Tilted Towers and Retail Row. The new mode emphasizes aggressive gameplay thanks to an automatic reboot mechanic.

Each player has their own individual reboot timer. If you get eliminated, your reboot timer starts counting down. As long as someone on your squad remains alive, you will reboot at the end of the timer. The reboot timer begins at 30 seconds but scales up to 40 seconds later in the match. Towards the end of the match, reboots will stop, meaning eliminated teammates can no longer return.

As a surviving member of your squad, you can either hide and wait out your teammates' timers. Or you can go on the hunt and try to reduce their timer by eliminating opponents. Downing an opponent reduces the reboot timer by two seconds while eliminating an opposing player reduces it by four seconds. Wiping an entire opposing squad will reduce the timer by 10 seconds. Revives are still an option in the game, but the downed player has the option to start their reboot timer right away.

The new map is smaller and more compact to both accommodate the smaller player count and to encourage action. Because of this, there are also no drivable vehicles. But there is a ton of unvaulted loot:

  • Revolver
  • Tactical Shotgun
  • Lever Action Shotgun
  • OG Heavy Shotgun
  • Tactical Submachine Gun
  • Infantry Rifle
  • Heavy Assault Rifle
  • Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
  • Rocket Launcher
  • Grappler

Fortnite Reload is playable in Battle Royale or Zero Build. You're still able to earn Victory Crowns as you would in these other modes.

Upon being rebooted, you'll return with a common Assault Rifle and, if playing Build, 100 wood. On elimination, players will drop their entire inventory along with Small Shield Potions, medium ammo, light ammo, shotgun shells, and (for Build only) 50 of each building material.

For those who participate in this mode, you have the chance to earn rewards and experience. Fortnite Reload has intro Quests that reward 20,000 XP each. Completing three of these quests unlocks the Digital Dogfight Contrail, six for the Pool Cubes Wrap, and nine to get the NaNa Bath Back Bling
