Earlier this week, global superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson dropped a cryptic teaser alluding to the Fortnite Chapter 2 finale and during today's event, he was officially revealed as The Foundation. If you missed the live event as it unfolded, Epic Games has recorded the entire thing and uploaded it for us to enjoy. Check it out below!
At this point in Fortnite's lifecycle, it's actually more surprising when a famous person or character isn't featured in the battle royale game so The Rock's reveal was a complete shocker. After all, we're talking about a game that has featured everything from Marvel and DC heroes and villains to characters from Naruto and John Wick. It was only a matter of time before The Rock was involved in the battle royale blockbuster.
Fortnite's lore actually goes quite a ways back so if you've only recently joined the action, The Foundation is the leader of The Seven. He first appeared in the Zero Crisis Finale event of Chapter 2: Season 6 and sealed himself into The Zero Point to stabilize it. We still don't know much more about him or his motives as it pertains to The Zero Point and the Cube, but we'll likely learn more as the next season unfolds.
As you can see, the Chapter 2 finale ended with the island being completely flipped upside down and currently players are left drifting in the ocean as we await the start of Chapter 3. We don't know when exactly the next chapter will begin as Epic Games hasn't announced a start date. The last time the game was stuck in this sort of limbo was during the transition from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2 when we couldn't play it for about two days before it returned back online. This has led to speculation that Chapter 3 won't begin until Tuesday, December 7.
In the meantime, you can keep in the loop with the livestream that Fortnite is currently hosting, but it's not terribly exciting to watch.
