Fortnite has seen all sorts of strange and fun collaborations in the past, but this latest may take the cake. Epic Games announced that Tesla's controversial Cybertruck will be added to the popular battle royale game on Tuesday, July 23rd.
The announcement was made via a teaser video that shows Fortnite's Fishstick in the driver's seat of a Cybertruck towing a bunch of other vehicles, including a tank. While seemingly capable of pulling all these vehicles, the chain snaps, sending the Cybertruck blasting forward.
Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the Cybertruck in action in Fortnite yet so we don't know if it will serve as a boss car or one that you can find and modify with weapons. With vehicular combat a major focus of the current season, it's no surprise to see vehicle-themed collaborations. What makes this particular collaboration amusing though is that the Cybertruck was billed as being bulletproof.
Of course, as we've seen through testing, the Cybertruck isn't completely bulletproof. While it is strong enough to withstand impact from .45 and 9mm rounds, other ammunition like 50 cal was able to penetrate. So if you're wondering why you're able to deal damage to the Cybertruck in Fortnite, that's why.
The Cybertruck is also coming to Rocket League, which isn't a complete surprise since the cars-meets-soccer game is owned by Epic Games. The Cybertruck appearing in Rocket League appears to be a pretty standard collaboration as both real-life and fictional cars have been released as premium DLC in the past.
The Cybertruck's bold and unique (or ugly) design makes it a fun addition to games. In fact, its block looks have even led to comparisons with those of low-poly video game cars in the past.
This is the second major collaboration Epic Games has announced for Fortnite. Last week, the battle royale game introduced its new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed event. Based on Disney's hit movie franchise, the mini-event features special quests that unlock in-game rewards through a free or premium battle pass. The Premium Battle Pass immediately unlocks the Jack Sparrow Outfit, and other characters from the movies — like Elizabeth Swann, Captain Barbossa, and Davy Jones — are also available for purchase as Outfits from the Item Shop.
The Pirates of the Caribbean event runs until August 6, 2024. We don't know how long the Cybertruck will be available in-game, although with the season coming to an end soon, it could last for the remainder. Let's just hope if you do find yourself in a Cybertruck in Fortnite, you don't have to send it back due to a recall.
