As you may have heard, the Metro 2035 website (which was launched to promote the final instalment in the Dmitry Glukhovsky novel series) mentioned earlier this week that a new game based on that title will be released in 2017. The FPS series has always received positive reviews and sold well, so it's easy to understand why this apparent leak was met with a great deal of excitement from fans of the series.
Unfortunately, Deep Silver were quick to clarify things with a statement making it clear that the website was a little overzealous! "As the exclusive rights holder to video games set in the Metro 2033 universe, Deep Silver has ambitious plans for the hugely successful Metro series. But just to manage our fans' expectations - releasing the next Metro game in 2017 is not one of them. When we have more news to share, we will. Thank you for your patience." That's not the update most of us wanted!
Even so, you have to believe that the "leak" should be taken as a sign that a new Metro is in the works and likely being eyed for a 2018 release. With any luck, something official will be announced soon.
