Blizzard Entertainment kicked off November 2019 with the announcement of a sequel to their popular multiplayer first-person shooter
Overwatch. They promise that it will feature a whole bunch of new content including an actual story mode and hero missions — not to mention new multiplayer modes and maps.
This was all well and good but director Jeff Kaplan made it clear that they had no idea when the sequel would actually see the light of day.
“I don’t know, I have no idea. Like, just let us make it great,” Kaplan said at BlizzCon 2019 —
more on that here. “That’s what we care about more than anything. We don’t have a date in mind.”
However, recently a social media post by an official PlayStation account on Twitter set the
Overwatch fanbase ablaze. The tweet from PlayStation Brazil (note: the account is verified) stated that
Overwatch 2 will release later this very year. This post was quickly deleted after it gained the attention of anticipating fans and news outlets.
One of these news sites was
Voxel and they had the forethought to capture a screenshot of the tweet in case of its removal. Courtesy of that site; you can check out the tweet in question below. It's not in English but it blatantly features
"2020" throughout. This is by no means confirmation and could be chocked up to being a misunderstanding or mistake but it's certainly something.
