Two weeks ago, Blizzard Entertainment announced
Overwatch 2 with an exciting animated cinematic and gameplay trailer — which you can check out below. The highly anticipated sequel will retain the popular competitive multiplayer of its predecessor whilst also implementing new PvE content such as a story mode and co-operative missions.
Following the announcement, many pondered why
Overwatch 2 wasn't simply an update for
Overwatch but rather its own seperate game. Surely, Blizzard could just add the PvE content and updated engine to
Overwatch. Well, Jeff Kaplan recently commented on that thought.
The director of
Overwatch and
Overwatch 2 recently said the following to
The Washington Post:
"This isn’t just DLC or an expansion. I play a lot of games. I can’t think of a single DLC or expansion of this magnitude." As well, Kaplan told the site that
Overwatch 2 "isn’t as controversial as it sounds."
There's simply too much content for it to be considered an expansion of
Overwatch. The sequel will feature all of the content from the first instalment, such as maps and cosmetic skins, and much more. We're looking forward to finding out more about
Overwatch 2 in the lead up to release —
the game's release similarly being a topic that Kaplan has addressed.
