As the current chapter for Battlefield 5, Into the Jungle, wraps up on April 29, fans can look ahead to the next major content update for the game arriving this summer. In a new blog post, DICE confirmed that the summer update, slated to arrive this June, will be the last major content release for the game.
The summer update won't be a Chapter 7 expansion, but instead a standalone update bringing "new content, weapons, and game tweaks." While DICE is targeting a June release, they've acknowledged that the date could shift due to possible challenges from working from home.
While the June update will be the last of the new content, Battlefield 5 will continue to be supported with new Weekly Missions. Battlefield Currency and Company Coins will be available following the summer update, giving players a chance to unlock gear they've possibly missed. Beyond updates to Community Games and "ensuring healthy game performance," it looks like DICE is ready to move on to the next new installment in the Battlefield franchise.
EA announced back in October 2019 that Battlefield 6 will likely arrive some time between April 2021 and March 2022. While Battlefield 5 was praised by critics, it was considered a commercial disappointed for Electronic Arts with only 7.3 million copies sold by the end of 2018.
