DESTINY 2 Tops The Japan Sales Chart In Its First Week Of Release But Numbers Are Down From DESTINY 1
Destiny 2 was the top-selling video game in Japan for the week of August 28 - Sept. 3. But how does that figure stack up to the launch of Destiny 1?
The top-selling Japanese video games in Japan for the PlayStation 4 have been released and Bungies' Destiny 2 has taken the top spot, with 50,263 units sold at a price of ¥7.900 (approx. $71.46 USD). In Japan, the Xbox One console is so unpopular it's not even worth examining Destiny 2 sales for that console in Japan (and Destiny 2 isn't available on the Swtich).
Check out the top 19 best-selling video games in Japan between August 28 and September 03.

An impressive feat, but as the NeoGAF forums point out, this figure is way down from the launch of Destiny 1 in Japan, which sold 91,277 copies on the PS4 and 49,503 on the PS3. Some gamers are speculating that more Japanese gamers may have purchased Destiny 2 on digital this time around while others are pointing the finger at a lackluster Beta as the reason why sales are down.
Another popular theory is that everyone in Japan is playing the Nintendo Switch so Destiny 2 was always going to have poor sales there. For example, this same sales chart revealed that ~45K Switch units were purchased in Japan that same week in comparison to ~18k PS4 consoles and 63 (yes, 63) Xbox One S consoles. Still, it's a little disheartening to see Destiny 2 sales barely surpass Destiny 1's PS3 sales.
This news certainly makes the wait for the first sales report for Destiny 2 in the U.S. a little more highly-anticipated/nerve-racking.
