Bungie has delivered an updated roadmap for
Destiny 2, spanning through the summer and beyond. In doing so, they revealed the name and release date for the game’s second expansion. It’s called
Warmind, and it’s set to release on May 8.
Although we’ll have to wait until the reveal stream on April 24 for specific details, Bungie says
Warmind will
“send you to new places to meet new heroes and battle new enemies. You’ll earn new loot and master new activities.”
“The team is very excited to extend the roadmap and share with you some of the big stakes we’re putting in the ground,” game director Christopher Barrett said about Bungie’s goals for the future.
“Recent updates have focused on immediate issues to the live game, but in the coming months our vision for the future is converging with critical player feedback to deliver transformative changes to Destiny 2.”
Warmind’s release will coincide with the launch of Season 3 (update 1.2.0) which Bungie says will marks the beginning of a
“new plan for how we deliver Crucible content.” All players will receive new Crucible Maps as well as maps previously released with Curse of Osiris, regardless if you’ve purchased either of the expansions. In an attempt to keep the community in the Crucible unified, everyone will see new arenas in matchmaking playlists like Quickplay, Competitive, Trials of the Nine, Iron Banner, as well as the new weekly rotators that include Rumble and Mayhem. Additionally, update 1.2.0 will bring Private Matches; however, players will need to purchase each Expansions to have exclusive access to play those Crucible maps with other players in a private match.
Beyond update 1.2.0 on May 8, there’s another update planned for summer which will introduce a new seasonal event, bounties, PC clan chat, faction rallies improvements, and exotic armor sandbox changes (which was pushed back) from a previous update.
Meanwhile, Season 4 is slated to arrive in September.
“Our goals for these features are to give you more control over how you configure your loadouts in Destiny 2 and give you more reasons to play the game over time,” Bungie said. “
We also want to bring back those exciting moments when you acquire the perfect weapon. To make this happen, updates like Weapon Randomization, Weapon Slot Changes, Gear Collections, and Records will be delivered to all players.”
