Sony shared a new trailer for Silent Hill 2 this past week, showing off how the PlayStation's unique features will help with the immersion of the upcoming psychological horror game. While the focus was on PS5 immersion with things like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, it's the very end of the trailer that many took notice of.
The end card of the trailer confirms Silent HIll 2 is a PlayStation 5 console exclusive. It will also be coming to PC at launch.
However, the fine print also reveals the game will "not be available on other formats until 10.08.2025." This confirms that Sony has a one-year console exclusivity deal for the game, which isn't necessarily unheard of as we've seen this sort of thing with countless other games in the past.
It's also worth noting that the Silent Hill 2 remake has not even been announced for other consoles, so we don't even know if there are plans for it to be released on Xbox consoles. If there are though, the Xbox versions won't arrive until at least a year from the game's release.
A remake of the 2001 classic, Silent Hill 2 follows James Sunderland as he returns to the mostly deserted town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his wife, who died three years previously.
"Enter a dream-like world and encounter twisted monsters, the menacing Pyramid Head, and a seemingly ordinary cast of characters wrestling with their past," the story synopsis teases. "As James comes to terms with his own turmoil, he'll be left with one question – why did he really come to Silent Hill?"
The original Silent Hill 2 was praised by critics and fans alike and is widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time. The remake aims to improve this experience with cutting-edge graphics powered by Unreal Engine 5, including ray tracing, realistic environmental soundscapes with PlayStation 5's 3D Audio, and more.
It's worth noting that the original Silent Hill 2 was originally released for PlayStation 2 in September 2001, though it did come to Xbox in December that same year. It was also ported to PC and re-released for the PlayStation 2 as a Greatest Hits version in 2002.
The Silent Hill 2 remake is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 5 and PC on October 8, 2024. As always, keep it tuned to GameFragger for all the latest news, including if there's any word on an Xbox version.
