Red Barrels officially announced The Outlast Trials back in April of last year — as you can see here. It's the next installment in the Outlast horror game series, which thus far consists of 2013's Outlast and 2017's Outlast 2 — both of which are available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The Outlast Trials will be flipping the formula as this time around it's multiplayer. The upcoming horror game allows up to four players to co-operatively try to survive a terrifying experience. However, you will apparently be able to play through The Outlast Trials entirely on your own, should you wish to do so.
It's set during the Cold War and revolves around experimentation on humans. A frightening teaser trailer for The Outlast Trials debuted during the recent PC Gaming Show livestream. This new teaser reveals that the upcoming horror game will release for the PC via Steam and Epic Games Store in 2021.
The Outlast Trials will presumably come to next-generation consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, at a later date — and perhaps even the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well — though Red Barrels is yet to officially declare anything about such ports.
Check out the new teaser trailer for The Outlast Trials below (via Red Barrels):
Set in the era of the Cold War, human guinea pigs are involuntarily recruited by the good folks at the Murkoff Corporation to test advanced methods of brainwashing and mind control. In a world of distrust, fear, and violence, your morals will be challenged, your endurance tested, and your sanity crushed. All in the name of progress, science, and profit.
The Outlast Trials comes to PC via Steam and Epic Games Store in 2021.
